In southern China, there is a city located on the eastern bank of the Pearl River Estuary, in the Pearl River Delta of the lower reaches of Dong River. It is known as the cradle of Lingnan civilization, the starting point of modern Chinese history, a key base of anti-Japanese resistance in South China, and a pioneer of reform and opening-up. It has earned various titles such as International Garden City, National Civilized City, National Basketball City, and Capital of Trendy Toys. Her name is "Dongguan".
With a history dating back to the Neolithic Age, Dongguan boasts over 5,000 years of civilization, nearly 1,700 years as a county, and more than 1,260 years as an established city. Its rich heritage has nurtured unique folk customs and profound history and culture. Building on this legacy, Dongguan continues to forge ahead, embarking on a new journey to strengthen its cultural identity.
The city has launched a high-quality cultural initiative where the Dongguan Art Museum Alliance is a key component. Currently, the Alliance has 35 member institutions (12 public and 23 private art museums), spread across most towns and districts. Over the past two years since its establishment, the Alliance has enriched public cultural services through collaboration, education, and art, becoming a vibrant part of the city's cultural landscape.
This touring exhibition brings together nearly 100 selected works from the collections of the members in the Alliance, showcasing each museum's distinct collections while highlighting the shared beauty of calligraphy and painting. These works embody Dongguan's pioneering and inclusive spirit. Though diverse in focus, all member museums share a common mission: to grow with art and nurture the future through education. May this Alliance continue to gather and spread the essence of art.
