Artists' Studio

The Ningbo Museum of Art (NMA) Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Program is a unique international exchange initiative launched after the museum's establishment. The program invites artists from different regions to immerse themselves in the cultural and historical context of Ningbo by staying at NMA. It aims to inspire reflections on future cultural developments, bridge potential gaps in cultural communication, and provide artists with the opportunity to rethink their roles within the continuum of Chinese culture, between its past and future.

Each year, the AiR Program selects one or two domestic and international artists during the spring and autumn seasons, with residency durations ranging from one to three months. While in residence, artists engage in creative work and cultural exchange activities.

The studio provided by NMA is a spacious duplex loft, with the lower level serving as a creative workspace and the upper level designated for living. In addition to essential painting materials and large-scale tools, the studio is equipped with bathroom and laundry facilities, household appliances, a computer, and internet access—ensuring that all the artist’s creative and living needs are met.

We offer a stipend to cover part of the living and artistic expenses. Depending on the residency plan, we also organize various artistic exchange activities with local universities, art institutions, and art enthusiasts. Outstanding resident artists may be given the opportunity to hold solo or group exhibitions at NMA, with the potential for their work to be acquired by the museum.
